Furniture Collections
“My goal is to make furniture that people can be comfortable living with. If you’re not preoccupied with making an impact with your designs, chances are something that looks good today will look good tomorrow.”
-- Sam Maloof
DeWitt Woodworking's five furniture collections provide a continuity of design; the pieces in each collection naturally go together and we'll continue to add even more pieces to each collection over time. If you see several pieces you would like but can afford only one now, you can be assured that the others will still be available in the future.
Pacific
The Pacific collection designs are inspired by Asian furniture and the works of Henry and Charles Greene (known as Greene-and-Greene). The Greene brothers combined traditional American and English Arts and Crafts designs with Asian influences, achieving a more delicate, refined style. The pieces in the Pacific collection are characterized by tapered and curved parts, cloud lift shapes, Ebony or Walnut plugs, and optional wood inlay. Door and drawer pulls are carved from wood.
Chautauqua
Why have beautiful, finely crafted furniture in your house, yet settle for cheap plastic or pine furnishings for your deck and yard? The Chautauqua collection consists of Greene-and-Greene inspired designs that are not only comfortable but will add to the beauty of your home. These pieces are built from weather-resistant woods using the same solid construction methods as our indoor furniture.
Prairie
Our Priairie collection is influenced by the traditional Mission (aka Arts and Crafts) furniture built by Gustav Stickley, as well as the strong horizontal and vertical lines seen in Frank Lloyd Wright's designs. The pieces in this collection are characterized by larger proportions, vertical slats or spindles, visible joinery, and rectilinear lines. Hardware (door and drawer pulls) are usually iron.
New England
The designs in the New England collection are inspired by the simple, unadorned furniture created by 19th century Shaker communities in New England. The pieces in this collection are characterized by delicate proportions, tapered legs, and dovetail joints. Door and drawer pulls are turned on a lathe.
Soho
Pieces in the Soho collection have a much more contemporary, Scandinavian appearance. This is our newest collection and thus the least complete. Look for additions to this collection in the future.
